Wells Fargo Donates $500,000 to Six Nonprofits

On December 7 Wells Fargo & Company announced donations totaling $500,000 to six nonprofits that will help revitalize San Diego neighborhoods through the Wells Fargo Neighborhood LIFT program. The grant recipients were identified in collaboration with City of San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and National City Mayor Ron Morrison. Those organizations receiving $100,000 grants from The Wells Fargo Foundation are: A Reason To Survive/ Saint Vincent de Paul Village, Inc.; Sa Diego Housing Commission. Local Initiatives Support Corporation and Veterans Association of North County each received $75,000 and Center for Employment Training received $500,000. The grants for San Diego will provide support for community revitalization, workforce development and youth programs.

Habitat for Humanity received a $100,000 grant from Wells Fargo Housing Foundation. On December 9, a check presentation ceremony was held at the home of veteran Ralph and Frances Short after Wells Fargo employees made repairs to the home in Imperial Beach.

STAR/PAL at Target

On December 3, the 23rd Shop with A Cop event sponsored by law enforcement agencies, SeaWorld, Target STAR/PAL and the San Diego Crime Commission was held. This year the event was hosted by the San Diego County Sherriff’s Department. Uniformed officers volunteered their time to partnered with a deserving child for a breakfast and a private animal show at SeaWorld and then embarked on a $150 shopping spree at Target.

Sycuan’s Tribal Council donated $70,000 to 28 organizations at its annual Holiday Gift Giving Ceremony on December 15. Each year, members of Sycuan’s Management team are asked to invite a charity of their choosing to the Holiday Gift Giving Ceremony. This year the beneficiary organizations included: ALS Association Greater San Diego Chapter, Challenge Center, Challenged Athletes Foundation, Mama’s Kitchen, Monarch School, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Soldier to Shelter.

The San Diego Black Renaissance hosted a Royal Afternoon Tea at The Westgate Hotel on December 3. The purpose of the gathering was to advance diversity and inclusion in the theatrical arts. Old Globe representatives meeting with San Diego’s Black community, was the first in a two-part community engagement series dedicated to strengthening the relationship between San Diego’s Black community and The Old Globe.

T-Squared Professional Engineers and Axiom Commissioning Group completed their Fourth Annual SD County AEC Food Drive on December 2, in partnership with the San Diego Food Bank. The companies raised 40,281 meals which will be used by the Food Bank to help community members in need this holiday season.

Mama’s Kitchen’s twelfth annual Pie in the Sky Thanksgiving Bake Sale raised $122,000 during the six-week sales period. Proceeds will directly fund 40,000 free meals which help ensure that no one living with AIDS or cancer will go hungry in the San Diego community. This year’s sponsors included Wells Fargo, Sycuan Casino, Walmart and The Original Pancake House.

Thousands of people are in need and thousands of philanthropists, businesses and individuals are helped by the more than 9,000 nonprofit organizations in San Diego County.
