Project Concern International honored Molly Eldredge with the Anne Otterson Community Connector Award at its Hands Across Borders gala on November 4. The award was created in honor of La Jolla resident Anne Otterson who passed away late last year. Anne was a community leader and a beloved friend of PCI. Eldredge continues Anne’s legacy by further connecting the community to PCI’s efforts to improve the lives of children and families around the world. The event raised $550,000 to support the PCI mission.

Holes for Heroes

The San Diego Downtown Breakfast Rotary Foundation held its 2017 Holes for Heroes Military Appreciation event on September 15 at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. A total of $180,000 was raised to benefit local military charities including Wounded Warriors, Freedom Dogs, Honor Flight, Veterans Village San Diego, USO and Armed Services YMCA San Diego and Camp Pendleton. Holes for Heroes has raised $1.2 million over the 11 year history of the event. Some of the sponsors were Jack-in-the Box, Sunroad Auto Group, Sycuan Casino, WAXIE and ViaSat.

The Grossmont Healthcare District board approved a $45,000 grant for ElderHelp’s Care Coordination, a program that delivers a variety of care management services, including health advocacy, escorted transportation to medical appointments, home safety inspections and repairs. Deborah Martin, CEO/executive director, ElderHelp of San Diego said, “We are so grateful for their support which helps us provide a continuum of care that is tailored to the specific needs of every one of the East Region seniors we serve.”

Guild Mortgage’s Guild Giving Foundation hosted its inaugural Charity Golf and Dinner Social raising $174,000 for three charities. The event was held on October 4 at the Rancho Bernardo Inn. Proceeds will benefit Monarch School, Urban Corps of San Diego County and the San Diego Rescue Mission. “The organizations are driving positive changes in areas that we feel very strongly about,” said Mary Ann McGarry, president and CEO of the Guild.

Tri-City Hospital Foundation is presenting its 37th annual Diamond Ball fundraiser, “An Evening with Dana Carvey”, on Novemeber 18 at Carlsbad’s Omni La Costa Resort. The gala raises funds to bring the most advanced 3D mammography screening technology to Tri-City Medical Center. Kevin and Ellen Stotmeister will be honored with the 2017 Individual Legacy Award and San Diego Imaging will be honored with the 2017 Group Legacy Award.

The Burn Institute’s Party in the Paddock

The Burn Institute held its 7th Annual Party in the Paddock fundraiser on October 14 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. Hosted by the San Diego County Fire Chiefs’ Association and the Burn Institute Auxiliary along with the Chiefs’ Golf Classic, the event raised $90,000 to support the programs and services of Burn Institute. Sponsors were San Diego Gas and Electric, American Medical Response, CAL FIRE Local 2881 and Procopio.

MANA de San Diego hosted its 21st Brindis Gala on October 12 at the US Grant Hotel. Southwest was the Presenting Sponsor, Platinum sponsors were Sycuan Casino and Cox. Gold included SDG&E, Center for Creative Leadership and San Diego Zoo/Safari Park. Proceeds go toward supporting MANA de San Diego’s programs dedicated to helping young Latinas to advance in their education and career.

The 5th Annual Giving Tree Lighting Ceremony is being held on November 24 at the Headquarters at Seaport Village. USO San Diego is the honored beneficiary of holiday events sponsored by the Hilton San Diego Bayfront and the Headquarters at Seaport Village. Guests are encouraged to bring toy donations that will benefit 1,000 active-duty military families served through USO San Diego.
