Former City Councilwoman and breast cancer survivor Marti Emerald has been tapped to host Susan G. Komen San Diego’s upcoming More than Pink dinner being held on April 11. The fundraiser at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine will bring together more than 350 survivors, supporters, community members, and experts for an evening of inspiration and education.

“Pink is more than a color. It represents the impact that each person is making in the fight against the most frequently diagnosed cancer worldwide,” said Shaina Gross, president and CEO, Komen San Diego. “This event motivates, inspires and shows us how San Diego is much more than pink.”

Tickets are available at komensandiego.org/dinner.

San Diego girls will be dressed to the nines this Valentine’s Day thanks to nonprofit Believe in Yourself

Online shopping platform UsTrendy’s charitable arm Believe in Yourself is coming to San Diego this February to pass out new, stylish dresses to underprivileged girls just in time for Valentine’s Day dances. The nonprofit Believe in Yourself aims to curb the pressure girls from low-income families feel to keep up with the Joneses fashion-wise, help them develop a positive body image, and fight cyberbullying. Girls will also have the chance to meet mentors and hear speeches from inspirational women. Believe in Yourself has hosted similar giveaways around the country.
