Though it was previously considered eradicated in the US, measles has made a recent resurgence, with more than 800 cases documented in the first five months of 2019 alone. The recent cases belie a sobering fact: the highly contagious viral infection is largely preventable through vaccination. A single dose of the MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) vaccine is roughly 93 percent effective. A second dose bumps that up to 97 percent. Most people who have been vaccinated are functionally immune, but some people born between 1963 and 1967 may need a booster. Read more here.
