The interactive traveling art pop-up Wonderspaces has returned to San Diego for a third year, debuting 13 incredible installations that challenge visitors to explore their own and collective experiences, environments, and relationships. The all-new exhibit on the downtown bayfront, In Common, focuses on empathy and insight into the way individual experiences foster connectivity. Through connecting with art, and in turn each other, Wonderspaces aims to create a shared experience and understanding.

Space Here Becomes Sound by Studio LONK x Mark Ijzerman

Featuring artists from Japan, Amsterdam, South Africa, and beyond, In Common is an immersive sensory experience. Stimulated by auditory, visual, and even virtual reality elements, patrons engage, connect and interact with each installation.

Wonderspaces 2019 Les Cent Visages

In Les Cent Visages by French duo Scenecosme, rotating video portraits are projected onto a screen, which when touched, melds the images together creating an amalgam of genders, skin colors, and unique features. The goal, according to the artists, is to create a “composite identity” of both the subjects photographed and the participants themselves.

Interactive virtual reality experience Where Thoughts Go transports participants into a tranquil, lucid dreamscape filled with sleeping big-eyed entities that can be awakened to reveal recorded reveries, stories, and secrets. Viewers are asked a series of personal questions, for instance to share a childhood memory, and their responses anonymously become part of the shared experience.

Wonderspaces is an event you have to see for yourself, as the experience is unique to each individual.

In Common runs through September 1. Learn more at sandiego.wonderspaces.com.
