San Diego is a popular destination for the perfect golf getaway, but where do we go when we need a change of scenery? The St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort is just an hour and 15 minutes from downtown San Diego, and worth the trip.
What makes Monarch Beach Golf Links unique is the duality of a traditional golf experience and authentic beach town feel: old-school golf meets laid-back vibe.
The sound of crashing waves and seagulls in the distance instinctively prompts you to check your golf cart for surf racks. In step with the course’s relaxed feel, head golf professional Eric Lohman is in the process of equipping the entire fleet of golf carts with speakers, allowing golfers to play their favorite music from their personal devices throughout the round.
To play this golf course well, course knowledge (especially around the greens) is required. Not only are the greens heavily guarded by intimidating bunkers, but they are extremely undulating as well. It is imperative that you not only hit the green, but know where on the green you want your ball to land. At 6,645 yards from the tips (par 70), it’s not the longest course you have ever played, but the yardage is ideal for the type of shot-making that is required.
Hole No. 3, the signature hole, nuzzles up to the public beach, so don’t forget to take a selfie at their “Selfie Spot” located by the green. It’s the perfect reminder of an exceptional and unique golf experience.
