First Look: California Condor Hatching

Published

All babies are precious, but not all are cute. This one happens to be both. US Fish and Wildlife Services launched the California Condor Recovery Program in 1987 to bring the magnificent, massive birds back from the brink of extincition (there were once fewer than two dozen California condors left alive in the wild).

San Diego Magazine got an exclusive first peek at the program’s newest arrival, capturing the moment when the tiny condor known (for now) as 2032 emerged from its egg. Happy birthday, baby. We’re so glad you’re here.
