Erin Chambers Smith has served as editor of San Diego Magazine since 2010, leading the magazine to increased newsstand sales and subscribers and a broad social media audience. She brings her expertise to a new role as Chief Content Officer, where she will oversee all content production within the company, including a growing portfolio of custom products.
“Erin values storytelling and reader service. She understands how to create content that’s compelling to read but also useful and inspiring. And she knows that means print, digital, social and experiential,” said CEO & Publisher Jim Fitzpatrick. “She’s been critical in evolving San Diego Magazine‘s voice and style, so it’s a natural fit to extend her role to oversee our growing portfolio of custom content. Who better to guide the storytelling of our esteemed partners and sponsors than an experienced writer and editor with a track record that shows a growing subscriber base, increased newsstand sales, digital media, and an expanded network of diverse contributors. When you include our growing marketing and events division, I couldn’t be more excited for the future of the company.”
San Diego Magazine’s Custom Content division currently includes Exquisite Weddings, a semi-annual wedding publication; San Diego Pets, a quarterly publication produced with the San Diego Humane Society; Salute to Champions, an annual publication for the Hall of Champions; the Visitor Planning Guide, a semi-annual publication for the San Diego Tourism Authority; and the annual Charitable Giving Guide. San Diego Magazine will be launching several new publications in the coming year focused on healthcare, education and science, technology, and innovation.
Erin Meanley Glenny joined San Diego Magazine in 2011 and will now be the chief editor of San Diego Magazine, beginning with the August issue. Whether it is a fashion photoshoot or a crazy new workout trend or a profile of a new theatrical production, Glenny has been instrumental in evolving San Diego Magazine‘s voice, look and feel to appeal to a growing segment of new, younger readers as well as longtime supporters and subscribers.
“Erin has a Post-It on her office wall right above the light switch that says ‘funny, voice-y, rad,’ a constant reminder of our efforts to think of our readers, to give them a product that’s both useful and fun to read. Erin always thinks of the reader first,” said Smith. “As a fourth-generation local who’s traveled the globe and spent several years in the big pond of publishing in New York City, Erin is a perfect fit for this job. She respects it and enjoys it. I can’t wait to see more of her personal touches in the coming issues.”
