Jazzercise, Inc. held a two-day international dance party and fitness getaway at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas on June 19-20. Jazzercise fans from 10 countries came together for group fitness classes, new workout routines, inspiration and an opportunity to give back. Jazzercise donated 100% of the proceeds raised through Plank It Off to Family Gateway, an organization working to end child homelessness. “Jazzercise has a longstanding tradition of giving back and making our muscle matter,” said Judi Sheppard Missett, Jazzercise Founder and CEO.
McAlister Institute held its fourth annual 5k Walk for Sobriety on July 18 at NTC Park at Liberty Station. The $55,000 raised benefit McAlister Institute, an organization dedicated to the compassionate care and treatment of individuals and families suffering from addiction, mental illness and homelessness.
DPR Construction raised $18,000 at the company’s 2nd Annual Cornhole Classic fundraiser. The proceeds were donated to the Autism Tree Project Foundation and the San Diego Art Institute Youth Outreach Program. “One of our core values at DPR is to build great things and that includes building positive connections in our community.” Said DPR’s Chair of the event, Ian Pyka.
The William Gumpert Foundation presented the 24th Annual Golf & Tennis Tournament, “Take a Swing for Seniors” on July 27. Sponsors included Ron’s Pharmacy Services, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., City National Bank, Bycor, Welk Resorts and Hoehn Audi. Proceeds benefit Seacrest Village Retirement Communities.
Paul Downey, President and CEO of Serving Seniors, was the only senior advocate from Southern California, to be invited by President Barack Obama to the White House Conference on Aging on July 13. Downey was one of 100 in the nation to be included. “The President’s remarks were very moving when he touched on the importance of assisting seniors in need,” said Downing. “The rest of the sessions were important because they emphasized the importance of strong and supportive policies for our nation’s seniors.”
ATT SD Pride Booth
AT&T sponsored an interactive art project at the San Diego Pride Musical Festival which was held on July 18-19. AT&T collaborated with artist Gary Baseman to create a San Diego themed sketch on canvas which was displayed at San Diego LGBT Pride Festival. Attendees completed Baseman’s design by lending fingers to add color to the art piece which will now be auctioned to benefit the Trevor Project, an organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention for LGBTQ youth.

Union Bank teamed up with San Diego Padres for two special programs: Military Appreciation Day and the Union Bank Financial Literacy Program. In addition to donating 500 tickets for the July 18 game, Union Bank also donated $20,000 to the Padres Foundation for Children. On July 21 the bank also kicked off the Union Bank Financial Literacy program. The first class took place at the Petco Park auditorium and four additional sessions will take place during the season.
All Sammy’s Woodfired Pizzza & Grill locations will encourage donations of school supplies for children in need by offering a Sammy’s gift certificate for each guest who donates at any Sammy’s location from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31. Donations needed include binders, highlighters, notebooks, pencils, pens and backpacks. Sammy’s will offer a $5 coupon for guests who donate $5 worth of supplies.

Art for Barks, founded in 2012 by Lynn Moon, has launched ‘Art to the Rescue”, an initiative created in partnership with San Diego Humane Society. As part of the program, Art for Barks will secure artists to paint portraits of adoptable animals housed at SDHS and help promote those in need of homes. San Diego artist Stephen Fishwick is one of the first to participate in the initiative. He created a portrait of an adoptable dog – Beanie who was adopted on May 26. Fishwick presented his painting to Beanie’s new pet parent at San Diego Humane Society.
