Girls Night Out benefitting San Diego Symphony’s educational and outreach programs was held on Apr. 8 at the ResMed office building. A large group of San Diegans gathered to raise funds that help SDS develop the potential of the children in San Diego through promoting appreciation and participation in music education. CEO Martha Gilmer joined co-chairs Lisette Farrell and Lori Walton in welcoming active bidders at the silent auction consisting of items such as jewelry, handbags and lightly worn designer clothing. Co-chair Joyce Glazer was unable to attend due to illness.

Feeding America San Diego is presenting Strike Out Hunger on May 5 at Mira Mesa Lanes. Currently, more than 450,000 local residents, including 1 in 4 children, are struggling with hunger. Feeding America San Diego is working to meet their immediate needs, while creating a long-term impact in the community through a comprehensive approach to hunger-relief. “This is a terrific opportunity for the community to come together for a friendly competition while joining in the fight against hunger,” said Karen Haren, interim executive director of Feeding America San Diego.

The LPGA’s Women’s Leadership Day, sponsored by Torrey Pines Bank, Cisco, and Servant Leadership was held during the Kia Classic on Mar. 26 at the Park Hyatt Avaria. A panel of women including Teofla Rich of Torrey Pines Bank, discussed leadership and how to cultivate business relationships through golf.

The Arc of San Diego received a $2,500 grant from The Rite Aid Foundation to support Camp-A-Little, the week-long residential summer camp for children with disabilities. “Camp-A-Little impacts children for a lifetime,” said David W. Schneider, President & CEO of The Arc of San Diego. For one week, children with disabilities will enjoy the excitement of going away to camp at Palomar Mountain School Camp.

La Jolla Playhouse has been selected for the Wallace Foundation’s Building Audiences for Sustainability effort. The Playhouse has been awarded $390,000 in the first cycle of this multi-year grant. The Playhouse was one of 26 arts organizations from around the country that were selected. Each organization will design and implement programs to attract new audiences while retaining current ones, measuring whether and how this contributes to their overall financial sustainability. LJP will receive grant support from Wallace to fund at least two continuous learning cycles of work.

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank 2015 Gala “Foodtasia: Hail to the Chefs Gala” is being held on May 2 at the Food Bank’s warehouse. Viejas is the Title Sponsor. Chefs from Sally’s Seafood on the Water, Busalacchi’s on Fifth, Inland Tavern, Ironside and Bertrand at Mr. A’s, will be preparing a multi-course dinner of his or her signature culinary delicacies.

International Bipolar Foundation’s Behind the Mask: Changing the Game of Stigma Gala is being held on May 9 at Estancia La Jolla Hotel. IBPF will present its IMAGINE Award to professional golfer and WPGA champion, Muffin Spencer-Devlin who personally suffers from bipolar disorder and sees beyond it. American sportscaster Dick Enberg will deliver a message.

Catwalk for a Cause: Tri-City Hospital Foundation’s Fashion That Heals will be held on May 2 at the Carlsbad Sheraton Hotel. The fourth annual fashion show will feature physicians, nurses and employees on the runway along with professional models. Proceeds will go towards the expansion and refurbishment of Tri-ity Medical Center’s neonatal intensive care unit, which is the only Level III facility in North County equipped to care for newborns in the most critical condition.
