Bookbinding: Link Structure – 2-day Workshop

About the Event

Saturday February 14 & Sunday February 15 — 1:00 to 6:00 PM
(2 full-day sessions)

Materials & Tools Technology + Design + Conservation

The Link structure has the unique property of connecting the cover of one book with the cover of another using a flap or tab as the connecting element. This union is easily reversible, allowing the books to function both independently and together.

This structure is ideal for editions of two or more volumes.

In this course, we will explore how to create two Link bindings, with covers made of heavy-weight paper and spines crafted from flexible materials such as leather, fabric, or “Japanese” paper—applicable in this case to accordion books. Over the course of two days, we will build two accordions using papers of various weights, evaluating different construction methods according to their technical qualities. We will then connect each accordion to a separate cover.

Instructor: Sol Rebora
