Pretty packaging is just the start of things we love about new local beauty line Beaute Nouveau. In an age when millennials are clamoring to know who is making their products and where they’re coming from, Beaute’s Lacey Haegen offers answers to both of those questions. She makes everything by hand in the kitchen at her Mission Hills studio. The location, a corner unit on the upper level of a historical building off Lewis Street, feels very New York, while the setup is similar to a baking operation, with a standard KitchenAid mixer and arsenal of natural ingredients—nary a single synthetic in sight.
When Haegen decided to launch her own brand, she did so with more than 20 years in the cosmetics industry to guide her. Among her inventory of butter balms, scrubs, and soaps, the Crème Nouveau ($80) is the star. It’s designed for delicate skin and can be used day and night on the face, neck, décolleté, under-eye area, lips, and even on babies. Haegen cites examples of customers who have called in a panic after running out or while on vacation and asked her to overnight a jar to them.

This month she debuts a fresh citron scent and new shaving scrub, which is an all-in-one soap, exfoliator, and shave cream. “My goal is to make products that are timesaving, yet indulgent and effective,” she says, “and to offer them at a good value.” It’s the nouveau way to go.
