Pike Place in Seattle. Ferry Building in San Francisco. And now, Liberty Public Market in San Diego. The concept is not new, but it’s one every city should replicate for the good of its humanity. LPM is a 25,000-square-foot space in Liberty Station that’s filled, bazaar-style, with 27 different vendors. Some are local, some are imports. Bread, beer, wine, cheese, meat, coffee, olive oils, po’ boys, lobster rolls, ice cream, pasta, Mexican and Thai food, desserts, you name it. Front and center is Mess Hall, a restaurant under chef Tim Kolanko, which will take the best of the market’s bounty and create dishes around it. A 3,000-square-foot dog-friendly patio doesn’t hurt, either.
