International Women’s Day is March 8, but there are events happening around town during the entire Women’s History Month, which began on March 1. From panel discussions to film screenings and wine-soaked mixers, these are some of the best chances to celebrate and learn about women’s history and empowerment through the end of the month.
Ladies Rock San Diego
Where: Queen’s Bee Art and Cultural Center
When: March 25, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Ladies Rock is a traveling weekend-long rock camp for women over 18. After an intensive weekend of learning to play an instrument, and writing an original song, students perform for the public on Sunday evening. Tickets are $10. Proceeds benefit Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls San Diego, a nonprofit that uses music education to empower girls.
Women’s Herstory Month at UCSD

When: March 2018
In honor of Women’s Herstory Month, UC San Diego is putting on a busy schedule of screenings, panels, and mixers featuring women’s “stories and experiences that have gone untold and unacknowledged.” See the full list of events here.
Slideshow Presentation from Women’s Empowerment International
Where: Women’s Museum of California
When: March 8, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Take in a slideshow presentation from Women’s Empowerment International about a recent trip to Haiti and learn about “how we can empower women in Haiti and around the world through local leadership.” Tickets aren’t required but attendees can RSVP here.
Grit & Grace
Where: Studio Kitchen
When: March 8, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Five of San Diego’s most highly regarded female chefs, plus two other female foodies, are coming together for this five-course dinner at event venue Studio Kitchen. Venissimo Cheese’s Gina Freize pairs cheese and charcuterie with bubbly beverages. Each dish from the five chefs is paired with wine by sommelier Tami Wong. Attendees can feel good about the $115 ticket price since all proceeds go to Women Empowered.
Women and Wine
Where: Bernardo Winery
When: March 19, 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Join this evening of wine and food tastings designed to connect women of all ages and professions. Tickets are $25 to $60.
Dare to Dream Luncheon
Where: Sony Electronics
When: March 21, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Naomi Tutu, daughter of human rights activist Desmond Tutu takes the stage as keynote speaker at this luncheon to discuss “the challenges of growing up black and female in apartheid South Africa.” The event is a part of San Diego Women’s Week, organized by North San Diego Business Chamber. Tickets are $59 to $79.
Leadership Conference
Where: Town and Country Resort and Convention Center
When: March 23, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
San Diego Women’s Week culminates in a day-long leadership conference with a slate of speakers ranging from Auschwitz survivor Edith Egar to San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan to actress Kim Coles, known for her role as Synclaire on Living Single.
