The Face of Sliders: Rosemarie’s Buns & Brews

Meet the faces behind the ideas, businesses, and movements shaping San Diego
SDM: Faces of SD 2026

Nick Balsamo

When Rosemarie’s landed in Mission Beach in 2023, it was an instant sensation, helped along by the hungry crowds who’d become accustomed to ordering Wagyu sliders with their lagers at the burger joint’s original food-truck pop-up at Harland Brewing. Next came an Ocean Beach location with an ever-present queue. Now, chef and owner Nick Balsamo’s taking his beloved restaurant to another laidback beach town: Encinitas.

The Encinitas outpost reimagines the former Angelo’s Burgers into a fresh, open-air hangout complete with a lawn-style movie space, picnic tables, and an easy-going backyard atmosphere unique to North County. Honoring its namesake—Balsamo’s Sicilian grandmother, whose kitchen was defined by generosity and welcome—the restaurant is built for locals. In a town Balsamo affectionately calls the biggest small city, the goal remains undeniable: serve exceptional comfort food, create genuine connection, and make every guest feel like family.
