North Park resident Kevin Moore captured this image of a recent lunar eclipse using the time-lapse technique. The final product, a composite of approximately 360 individual photos, captures stellar light streaks caused by the Earth’s rotation. The bright mark in the center is the Moon passing through the Earth’s shadow. Moore, an associate professor of physics at UC San Diego and a surfer, shoots the waterfront as often as possible. A proponent of night photography, he advises fellow enthusiasts to shoot in low-light situations. “You don’t have to be a physicist to geek out about optics, digital sensors, and astronomical phenomena.”
