Hiring: Media Sales Representative

Fresh off a national media award and the launch of two successful new ventures—SDM Studios and Del Mar Wine + Food FestivalSDM is growing… fast. Our roster of brand partners is expanding.

To meet demand, we’re looking for more talented, energetic, likable sales reps to be a part of the next growth phase. 

People who give a damn about brands and their stories—from startups to global icons—and know how to leverage the millions of eyeballs on SDM’s platform to help our partners.

SDM started 76 years ago with the monthly glossy magazine (still going strong), and now boasts a national award-winning podcast, one of the region’s largest social media platforms, newsletters, five annual sold-out events, and a custom branding and video production studio.

Media Sales Representative Responsibilities

Daily Duties

  • Work with our in-house creative branding team to come up with innovative, creative, compelling stories for brands and partners
  • Understand how SDM’s platforms work, and their advantages—clearly explain our products, services, and marketing promotions 
  • Make meaningful contacts and relationships with businesses and brands, help them translate their stories and honestly, effectively translate their messages
  • Generate leads through in-person networking at social events, through tech, through all the ways
  • Schedule and execute presentations to create a visual explanation of the magic and stats of SDM
  • Listen carefully to customer concerns… find real solutions that deliver for them (never sell something unless we know it works for the client). 
  • Suggest new marketing strategies to connect with a specific region or demographic
  • Attend meetings, Zoom calls, and webinars to enhance sales tactics, stay on top of industry trends, and gain additional knowledge on our clients
  • Input accurate customer information in our system including billing, address, contact information, and account preferences
  • You get it. Do sales. But do it well with meaning and compassion. 


  • 2-6 years experience in sales, media, ad/creative agency, branding, customer service, or other related fields 
  • Be able to identify a clients’ real needs and unique story/selling points, and strategize the best way to broadcast it on SDM
  • Efficiently and passionately communicate proposals during presentations
  • Be willing to listen, learn, and be humble
  • Proven track record of driving sales revenue
  • Strong negotiating, planning, and consulting skills
  • Excellent organization and problem-solving 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with prospective and existing customers
  • Detail-oriented and has good time management skills to succeed in a fast-paced environment
