The hottest thing in our food scene right now is fire. Chefs are eschewing wet techniques like braising and sous vide for dry heat, open flame, and delicious char. No place, possibly, more so than The Grill at The Lodge at Torrey Pines.
The property has invested $2.5 million to overhaul its casual indoor/outdoor eatery, adding a six-foot wood-fired grill, an oven, two rotisseries, a diner-facing fireplace, and five fire-pit tables. For the menu, executive chef Jeff Jackson and chef de cuisine Kyle Wiegand have cobbled classics (the famed Drugstore Hamburger is present) and new dishes like oak-grilled tri-tip done Santa Maria style. Craft beers, craft cocktails, and Baja wines also make it a must-visit.
