Home Start Backpack and Supply Drive

For many families, school supplies can be difficult to afford. Local nonprofit Home Start is collecting various school supplies for underserved students, which helps reduce the financial impact that school supply shopping can have on struggling families.

School supplies they will be collecting include sturdy backpacks, pens, pencils, folders, binders, scissors, glue sticks, reusable water bottles, and more.

The donations directly benefit children served by Home Start’s programs, ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade.

Donations of supplies or filled backpacks ready to distribute can be dropped off at Home Start’s main office from Monday through Friday between 9:00am – 5:00pm.

Participants can also choose to donate by shopping through Home Start’s Amazon Wishlist, which allows the school supplies to be shipped directly to Home Start.

Additionally, Home Start is also welcoming volunteers to help pack the backpacks with the donated supplies before they are distributed. From July 29 through August 3, participants can help create the perfect back-to-school gift for a San Diego student. Backpacks will then be distributed to Home Start families throughout the first week of August.
