Reservoir 2 by Sarah Hennies

About the Event

In alignment with its mission to produce immersive, interdisciplinary performances of vital works by living composers, Project [BLANK] is proud to present Reservoir 2: Intrusion by Sarah Hennies, promising a sonic and visual experience unlike anything San Diego audiences have encountered. This evening-length work for choir and bass flute creates a delicate, evolving soundscape activated by singers moving throughout the space, enveloping the audience in a constellation of voices.

The performances will take place inside the darkened halls of St. Paul’s Cathedral in Bankers Hill. Accompanying the music will be a new site-specific light and video installation by Allison O. Evans. According to Evans, “Ethereal pillars of light, which echo the space’s neo-Gothic columns, will slowly emerge out of darkness over the duration of the performance, drawing attention to both the site and to the bodies of the performers. This dance of light, sound, and movement immerses the viewer in the interstitial space of the mind, evoking the animus of Hennies’ work.”

Musicians include Teresa Díaz de Cossio (bass flute) and singers from the San Diego New Verbal Workshop, with music direction by Zane Alexander and movement choreographed by Victor de la Fuente.
