The 2013 Globe Gala, A Magical Evening, is being held on Sept. 21 with a special concert performance by the cast of The Last Goodbye. The performance is followed by dinner and dancing on The Old Globe’s Copley Plaza. Major sponsors include Audrey S. Geisel, Darlene Marcos Shiley and Conrad Prebys and Debbie Turner. Corporate sponsors include Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, KPMG, Neiman Marcus, Qualcomm, Sycuan, Torrey Pines Bank and Nordstrom.

Ocean Discovery Institute celebrated its students and supporters at their annual Bubble Up! gala at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa on Sept. 7. This year’s black-tie affair honored the organization’s many students’ achievements and the contributions from supporters.  The event raised over $275,000 that will provide critical support for Ocean Discovery’s programs, paving the way for more than 6,000 local youth to gain knowledge and understanding of the sciences and nature. Bubble Up! was made possible thanks to the support of title sponsor, Hologic, as well as Boeing; Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves and Savitch; SDG&E; RECON Environmental, Inc.; Cox Communications; Waitt Foundation; Latham & Watkins; Life Technologies; Morrison Foerster Foundation; Illumina; Frequentz; and Hughes Marino.

San Diego Medical Society Foundation event on Sept. 26 at the Abbey in Bankers Hill.  Honoring volunteer healthcare partners and benefiting SDMSF’s Project Access San Diego, providing access to care for San Diego’s most vulnerable. Wendy Buchi, MD , Rosemarie Marshall Johnson MD, and Imaging Healthcare Specialists are being honored at Heroes de la Salud event. Sponsors include SIMNSA health plan, City National Bank, AKT, the doctors insurance Agency Bob DESimone and San Ysidro Health Center.

The International Relief Teams will hold its Gifts of Hope Gala on Sept. 28 at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina. The organization which works to alleviate human suffering through disaster relief and building healthy communities, is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Maritime Museum of San Diego is celebrating its 150th Anniversary with a Gala to be held on the Star of India on Sept. 28. The Title Sponsor is CYMER and The Fish Market is the Presenting Sponsor. Other sponsors include The James Irvine Foundation, Marine Group Boat Works, Cushman Foundation, US Bank and the Sinegal Family Foundation. Proceeds will support the completion of the building of the San Salvador, a working replica of the ship that carried Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo to California in 1542.

The San Diego Rotary Club 33 presented the annual Mr. San Diego award to Stephen Cushman at its meeting on September 12 at the Liberty Station Conference Center. Cushman is recognized as a businessman, volunteer and philanthropist. Cushman has contributed 50 years of service serving on 70 boards and commissions including a variety of healthcare, sports, and business organizations. He has received numerous awards including special recognition in 2001 from the San Diego Convention & Visitor’s Bureau for Extraordinary Leadership and support of the Tourism Industry in San Diego.

Bridgepoint Education and Ashford University employees collected 12,000 pounds of food during the Back to School food drive held between Aug. 5 and Aug. 30 to benefit the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank. “The Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank deeply appreciates the partnership and commitment of the entire Bridgepoint Education team for a successful food drive,” said James Floros, president and chief executive officer of Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank. “Our sincerest thanks for helping those in our community that struggle to get enough to eat.”

Hoehn Motors is donating a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA or $30,000 cash to a raffle benefiting Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. Proceeds from the raffle will help provide comfort and care to families with hospitalized children. The winner will be drawn at the RMHCSD’s ROMP gala on Oct. 5.
