Old Hollywood glam swept through the Marriott Marquis earlier this month as the San Diego Association of Corporate Counsel’s 18th annual Black & White Ball got underway. The benefit gala raised more than $70,000 for South Bay Community Services’ therapeutic preschool for kids affected by abuse or violence. About 500 members of the local legal community were in attendance.
“The generosity of this community and support of the individuals at this event are proof of what a special place we all have in San Diego,” said ACC-SD President Paul Najar.

Ernest and Evelyn Rady have made a $20 million commitment to San Diego Zoo’s Animal Ambassador program. One caveat, though: zoo supporters must match $15 million of that dollar for dollar, so get those checkbooks ready. In honor of the Radys’ generosity, the zoo’s Animal Ambassadors, who spread its message of conservation throughout the community, will be renamed Rady Ambassadors.
“Evelyn and I are proud of all that the San Diego Zoo does in our community,” said Ernest Rady. “It is a magnet for tourism, and boosts the quality of life for all residents. By making this commitment, we want what is so special about the Zoo to be in place forever.”

Miracle Babies’ Breakfast at Tiffany’s fundraiser brought in $60,000 to help the families of infants in local Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Around 180 members of the business and philanthropic communities channeled Holly Golightly and indulged in a morning cocktail reception and decadent brunch at La Valencia Hotel and Spa. The event also marked the five-year anniversary of the nonprofit’s Miracle Circle Auxiliary.
