Qualcomm was the Champion Sponsor for the Friends of the Badge Luncheon held on June 6 at San Diego Convention Center. Public Safety Patrons were SDG&E and Marco Polo, Inc. The event, which is produced by the San Diego Police Foundation, raised $137,000 to be used for equipment, training and outreach programs.
The Scripps Mercy Outreach Surgical Team (M.O.S.T.) celebrated its 30th anniversary on June 3 with a Mariachi Festival at Humphreys by the Bay. The event raised $250,000 for the volunteer medical group to continue its humanitarian missions to Mexico. A team of 50 volunteers work with local organizations and set up temporary clinics to treat children in need of reconstructive surgeries.

Voices for Children held its 6th annual Wine Women & Shoes on May 20 at the Canfield-Wright Estate in Del Mar. The event raised $250,000 in support of VFC’s CASA program providing one-on-one advocacy to San Diego County foster youth. Event sponsors included California Bank & Trust, First American Title, L+L Printers, Mechanics Bank, and Wells Fargo.
San Ysidro Health Center held a Yoga for Wellness event on June 11 on the beach at the Hotel del Coronado. As part of the eighth annual SYHC Gala to be held on June 24 at the Hotel Del, supporters came out to support the mission of SYHC. This event raised awareness and $3,500 to help fund critical programs. The Gala is projected to raise $500,000.

The Social Equity Collaborative Fund hosted by San Diego Grantmakers awarded $821,650 to six local projects, representing 30 organizations and groups of residents working to achieve racial and economic just in the San Diego region.
The 9th Annual Amazing Race for Children’s Wishes event was held on May 7 and raised $140,000 for Make-A-Wish San Diego. The event was hosted by the Coronado Yacht Club and represents a community collaboration of CYC, the Navy Yacht Club, and the Coronado Cays Yacht Club. Another Make-A-Wish event, Walk for Wishes raised $227,000 to raise funds to help grant more life-affirming wishes for children in San Diego and Imperial Counties.
Spring Fling Gala
Helen Woodward Animal Center’s 29th annual Spring Fling Gala raised $225,000 for the pets and programs at the Center. The gala was presented by Ed and Sandy Burr of EDCO. “A Night in Old Havana” was held on June 3 at Fairbanks Village Plaza in Rancho Santa Fe.
USO San Diego’s 76th Annual Stars and Stripes Gala was held on May 20 on the USS Midway. The event honored philanthropist Malin Burnham and raised $738,000 for local military. Premier Title Sponsors included Helene and George Gould and Papa Doug and Geniya Manchester. The gala celebrated the strong and enduring relationship between San Diego and our Armed Forces.
Boots 2 Roots 5K Trail Run & Hike
The inaugural Boots 2 Roots 5K Trail Run & Hike was held on May 28. The event raised $10,555 to support therapies for veterans with post-traumatic stress. Wave Academy, an organization that provides warm water therapy, and Warriors Live on who provides integrative mental health therapy among other things, were the two hosts.
Wells Fargo is the Title Sponsor for Ronald McDonald House Red Shoe Day. The event is being held on June 22 with 250 locations across San Diego County. Other sponsors include McDonald’s San Diego County, The CW San Diego, and GEICO. Proceeds helps RMH keep families strong in the days and nights of caring for their hospitalized children.
