More than 400 guests were on hand as The Fairmont Grand Del Mar transformed into an enchanted garden for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego’s 10th annual ROMP Gala October 12. The event itself plus its Hoehn Motors Luxury Car Raffle raised $600,000 to help the Ronald McDonald House support the families of hospitalized children.
“Community support is critical to providing care and support to families going through the unimaginable, especially as the number of families in need exceeds our capacity,” said Chuck Day, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. “Donations, like those from ROMP, will continue to allow us to provide families with a range of services including meals, lodging, and laundry facilities to restore a sense of normalcy during a time of turmoil.”

Child abuse prevention organization Home Start, Inc. raised more than $30,000 at its Hallo-Wine Fall Festival. The nearly 400 people who attended the October 19 event at the Historic Burnham House got to sample food and drinks from Trevi Hills Winery, Califino Tequila, Solare, Louisiana Purchase and more. The Hallo-Wine Fall Festival, now in its 12th year, is held each October in conjunction with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“We are most grateful for the many individuals, businesses, vendors, and sponsors who so generously supported Hallo-Wine to help Home Start serve vulnerable children and families,” said Laura Tancredi-Baese, LCSW, Home Start’s CEO.
Youth organization SAY San Diego recently celebrated the opening of its new Early Childhood Center in Kearny Mesa. The center offers accessible, affordable, and high-quality childcare, the lack of which can hinder career development for new parents and adversely affect kids’ readiness for school. The Early Childhood Center was made possible by a $500,000 grant from the Guy C. Clum Fund at The San Diego Foundation.
