American Heart Association bachelor auction at Andaz

Andaz San Diego presented Andaz Goes red, a bachelor auction, on Feb. 14. Guests were able to bid on dates with each bachelor to raise money for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign. A total of $8,500 was raised. Justin Rosenthal was one of the dozen bachelors considered for the Feb. 21 date at the Andaz rooftop.

When You Wish Upon a Star, the 2013 Charity Ball, was held on Feb. 16 at the Hotel del Coronado. All proceeds benefit The Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Chldren’s Hospital-San Diego. The Peckham Center is the largest pediatric hematology/oncology program in the region serving San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties and the only facility in San Diego County for pediatric bone marrow transplants. Union Bank and Wells Fargo were the Gold Sponsors. Silver Sponsors included Bridgepoint Education, Dr. & Mrs. John Ahlering, California Bank & Trust, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Copley and Dowling and Yahnke.

Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego has been awarded a $35,000 grant from Meals On Wheels Association of America in acknowledgement of its participation in Subaru’s “Share The Love” Event. As part of Subaru of America, Inc.’s “Share The Love” Event, Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego, Inc. worked with Kearny Mesa Subaru, Frank Subaru in National City and Bob Baker Subaru in Carlsbad during the holiday season to deliver meals to San Diego seniors and forge local business relationships for necessary fund and awareness raising. “Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego is grateful to Subaru of America for its annual “Share the Love” event and to the generosity of all who participated locally in making our Meals-on-Wheels event so successful,” said Debbie Case, president & CEO, Meals-on-Wheels Greater San Diego.

48th Annual Women of Dedication

The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary “A Garden of Giving” is being held on Mar. 8 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. The 48th annual Women of Dedication will recognize fourteen women for their contributions to the community of San Diego. Proceeds raised will go to the Door of Hope Transitional Living Facility. Construction on the building is scheduled to be completed this year.

San Diego County Credit Union raised $12,584 for San Diego Human Society and SPCA through a link on its website for the Presents for Paws campaign. “The goal was to raise $10,000 and we exceeded that goal,” said Teresa Halleck, SDCCU president/CEO.  “These donations will help save precious animals.”

Kids Korps USA presented a benefit luncheon on Feb. 6 at the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. HEARTS, HATS AND HEELS included a fashion show featuring attire from boutiques including Maggie B/Mister B Clothing, TRE Boutique, Pebbles, Deja Chic and Elephant Walk. “Kids Korps is about inspiring young people to engage their hands, hearts and minds in service to others,” said Veronica Baker, Associate Director. “It’s appropriate that we do a benefit event that reflects our vision: getting kids involved from their heads, to their hearts, to their feet!”

Greet the Day

Greet the Day celebrated its 10th Anniversary of serving cancer patients. Spa Gregorie owner Angela Cortright has worked to improve the quality of life for people affected by cancer through “Greet The Day”. The program announced a partnership with the UCSD Moores Cancer Center to extend restorative body work services. Greet the Day has been improving the quality of life for people affected by cancer with complimentary oncology massage.

InnerMission Productions worked with the Center for Community Solutions to present One Billion Rising San Diego, part of a global uprising to bring an end to domestic violence against women and girls, on Feb.14 with events held all day beginning with a citywide strike at 2:14 on 02.14.2013.

Taste of the NFL

The Junior League of San Diego held its Wiggin” Out, a wine soiree benefiting the National Alopecia Areata Foundation on Feb. 21. The event was held at Fifty Seven Degrees wine bar. In addition to assisting a worthy cause, the event provides the JLSD with an opportunity to train new members and provide the leadership development needed to help create the next generation of civic and community leaders.

In honor of Chef Jonathan Hale’s journey to the Super Bowl a “Taste of the NFL” 3-course menu was offered at the Prado Restaurant from Jan. 19 to Feb. 10 to raise money for the San Diego Food Bank. $1 per dish went to the organization. A total of 1,165 Taste of NFL dinners were sold and $3,495 was raised which translates to 20,790 meals. The national Taste of NFL event raised 1,000,000 meals to fight hunger.
