SAY San Diego received a $7,500 donation from the Western Alliance Community Foundation, the charitable foundation of Torrey Pines Bank. The funds go to the Social Advocates for Youth’s Family Self-Sufficiency Program which provides services to low income families in North Central San Diego in an effort to help employable family members become job ready and self-sufficient.
The Academy of Our Lady of Peace Vive La France Gala was held on Mar. 28 on campus. The evening celebrated the founding Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet whose origin goes back to Le Puy, France in 1650. The event raised $120,000 to benefit the next generation of women leaders and innovators at OLP. Sponsors of the event included TB. Penick & Sons, Neyenesch Printers, Kennedy & Souza Law Firm, Green Dragon Tavern & Museum and The French Gourmet.

Volunteers from United Way of San Diego County participated in the National Education Association’s 18th Annual Read Across America Day to inspire the love of reading and the written word. Volunteers also celebrated Dr. Seuss’s 111th birthday by sharing tales from Dr. Seuss with students at elementary schools across the county. Volunteer Latasha Tarachsel read to students at Rowan Elementary School for Read Across America Day.
The San Diego Symphony is presenting Girls Night Out on Apr. 8 at the ResMed building. The evening includes a light supper, wine bar and an extensive silent auction. Sponsors include ResMed, San Diego Magazine, California Coast Credit Union, Margaret’s Couture Cleaners and Garde Robe West.

ElderHelp presented Spring Fling on Mar. 15. Sponsors of the event included Sycual Casino, Robbins Geller Rudman&Dowd, The San Diego Foundation, SDG&E and Anderson direct&digital. $35,000 was raised to benefit the programs and serves of ElderHelp. Six Essence of Life Awards were presented to those who have contributed to ElderHelp recently and throughout the years of serving the Greater San Diego Community.
“Wild West Roundup For Rights” Gala is scheduled for Apr. 18 at the Downtown Library. Presented by Girls Think Tank, an organization comprised of attorneys, other professionals, and people living on the streets, is hosting the sixth annual gala. The purpose is to raise funds for programs that advance basic human dignity in San Diego.

The San Diego Museum of Art is planning the 34th annual Art Alive and will honor the 100th anniversary of Balboa Park. To celebrate this milestone, Rene van Rems of Rene van Rems International will be the Rotunda Designer. Bloom Bash will kick off the opening celebration, featuring and inspired by Modern Hieroglyphics of Chor Boogie’s eclectic artwork.
Grant Grill raised $1,500 for Kings of the Craft at its fundraiser on Mar. 25 at its Kick Start Charity event. The event was a late night happy hour and art sale. Renowned Pop Fusion artist Eric Waugh painted throughout the evening, taking inspirations from his surroundings. Proceeds from the artwork sold will be used to support Kings of the Craft’s Kickstarter campaign to complete a six-episode documentary series about San Diego’s craft beer movement.
