Former CEO of Jack In The Box Linda Lang can distinctly recall cheering on her fellow execs from the sidelines during the annual company charity golf tournament at Aviara Golf Club back in 2003. She thought to herself, “I would rather be playing than driving the beer cart!” So Lang decided to pick up the game and wasted no time signing up for the 3-Day Golf School at Kip Puterbaugh’s Aviara Golf Academy. By the end of the third day she was playing her first nine holes of golf, and hasn’t put the clubs down since.
Today Lang names Aviara as her favorite golf course in San Diego, thanks to her fond memories of those early days, learning the game she has grown to love.
Aviara Golf Club, part of the Park Hyatt Aviara Resort, will host the 2015 LPGA Kia Classic for the third year in a row, March 23–29, 2015. But the course isn’t just for pros. One of the features that make it appealing to such a wide variety of golfers is the assortment of tee boxes and course yardages, which can range from 5,007 to 7,007 yards. The more advanced players enjoy the challenge while beginners aren’t intimidated, making this golf course great for group events and corporate outings.
The numerous water features add to the tranquility of the golf course, unless of course you find your golf ball in one of those water features. Somehow, though, you are too swept up in the beauty and serenity of your surroundings to care. Being so close to the ocean, there is a hint of salt in the air when you catch a soft breeze from the west. In a world of fast-paced and packed schedules, the Aviara experience will remind you what it feels like to breathe and just “be.” If not, you can always look forward to the complimentary round of wings following your golf game, Tuesday through Sunday at Argyle Lounge.
