Madewell
The new Madewell boutique—San Diego’s first!—opens May 7 at Fashion Valley mall. We love this NYC-based company’s relaxed, bohemian designs and great-fitting jeans. Also look for covetable collections from labels like See by Chloé, Rachel Antonoff, Elizabeth and James, and more. To celebrate its grand opening, the store will be giving away a polka-dot clutch with every purchase, while supplies last.

Q&A
Larry Anhorn and Jerry Parent, formerly of FloraStyle, are bringing new creative talent to Adelaide’s La Jolla
What’s new at Adelaide’s?
Our Friday Flower market, a no-fuss way to buy bunches of flowers at wholesale pricing; our new interior with new displays including a “do it yourself” potting station for succulents; a new counter at the front door that makes the purchase of stem flowers easier; and a newly designed website.
Three ways to spruce up your home for spring?
1. Add a succulent wall-piece (or entire wall) to your patio.
2. Use permanent botanical orchid arrangements that look incredibly real but require no sunlight or water. Place them in the same room or area with real orchids and flowers, and they will fool the eye.
3. Mound one type of fresh seasonal flower, such as tulips, together in a vase.
Floral faux pas?
Avoid mixing natural and permanent botanicals together in the same container—unless you really know what you’re doing!
Colors of the moment?
On-trend right now, especially for beach areas, are: yellows, whites, and various bright and muted greens.
Floral trends you’re loving?
Simplicity is key. Less is more. The amazing array of flowers and colors available speak for themselves. No need for extravagantly styled arrangements when a bunch or two of the same type of flower in a vase is perfection.
