At Queenstown Public House, the latest project by the owners of Bareback Grill, you can score a solid lamb burger (the pickled beets, blue cheese, mint jelly and aioli-topped number earned a spot in SD Mag Food Critic Troy Johnson’s round-up of the best things he ate in May), but if you’re looking for something a bit lighter, or simply feel uncomfortable munching ground lamb in plain sight of the fluffy little sheep happily grazing on the ceiling, try the Big Bowl ($11).
It’s listed on the “Greens” menu, but other than a few pieces of arugula, the salad is mostly fruit. Tender chunks of papaya, mango, and avocado mingle with juicy grilled shrimp. It’s satisfying without being heavy, goes great with a glass of prosecco sangria ($7) and makes the argument in favor of getting dessert so much easier.

One fun option is the lemon custard with berries ($6), served with a menagerie animal crackers. You can use a spoon, but the better way to savor this dessert is to employ the crackers as edible utensils, massacring them at the same time as you take down that luscious lemon custard. Ceiling sheep: you may want to avert your eyes.
Queenstown Public House is located at 1557 Columbia Street, in Little Italy (map)
