In today’s episode of Happy Half Hour, hosts Erin Chambers Smith and Troy Johnson along with producer Archana Ram share the latest in dining and drinking news. First up, Javier Plascencia has split with Bracero in Little Italy and Bonita’s Romesco Mexiterranean Bistro. The chef said in a recent Facebook post: “Just want to be clear that I will not leave San Diego for good, I’m next door! (wall or no wall!!) I’m looking into some locations that will be the right fit for the concept that I want to do.”
We also chat about Restaurant Week, with Troy’s top picks for where you need to dine, and Farm to Fork Week, a new initiative spearheaded by The Red Door’s Trish Watlington, a fierce champion of local, sustainable sourcing.
Plus Krystina Cook of Cook Pigs Ranch is our guest, and she’s telling us everything we need to know about raising piggies, from feeding pesticide-free and seasonal produce to working with restaurants in town. She also dives deep into why she recently moved her operation from Julian to Petaluma, and how our city needs to support local farmers better. (We also talk about the ranch’s adorable Instagram feed.)
We also talk Small Bites, including a great date night restaurant, the best things we ate this month, and more. And check out Troy’s recap of his favorite dishes from 2016.
