When the Sea Meets the Farm Dinner

Where: 1500 Ocean at Hotel Del Coronado, 1500 Orange Ave, Coronado
This fundraiser dinner at 1500 Ocean is a four-course chef collaboration based around sustainable seafood and farms, starting with cocktails in the Del Garden with drinks inspired by the garden itself. Each course is paired with wines from the Valle de Guadalupe by Baja wine expert Fernando Gaxiola. Chefs for each course include James Montejano (La Valencia), Alex Emery (Hilton San Diego Bayfront), Meredith Manee (1500 Ocean), and Zaira Chavez (Valle de Guadalupe pastry chef). Proceeds go to the Berry Good Food Foundation, a collection of some of the better local/sustainable food minds in San Diego. The goal is to both create local foodways (meaning getting good farmers, ranchers, etc. in direct contact with the buying public) and education.
COST: $95 pp/$145 pp with wine pairings
Chef-Driven Bake Sale
When: April 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Where: LoungeSix at Hotel Solamar, 616 J Street, Downtown
No Kid Hungry is one hell of an organization, raising money to end childhood hunger. A pretty gross 15.3 million children in the U.S. lived in food-insecure households in 2014. In the land of plenty, apparently plenty isn’t enough. So some of the city’s top pastry chefs, as curated by local food writer Erin Jackson, are donating baked goods which will be sold poolside at Hotel Solamar. Chefs include Vivian Hernandez-Jackson (Azucar), Kayli Faucher (Crack Shack), Jojo Rossi (Whisknladle), Rocio Siso-Gurriaran (Nine-Ten), and a ton of others.

Where: Puesto, 789 W. Harbor Drive, Downtown
Nortec Collective is one of the best creative DJ/artist collectives to ever cross over from Mexican success to American success to international success. Anytime they’re performing in San Diego, I urge you to stop most things besides maybe parenting or surgery in order to attend. Even better is that this event is free, as part of Puesto’s Cincoteca celebration. The gourmet taco shop will have taco carts set up at the Headquarters, with beer and margaritas as well. Go.
