Del Mar Summer Solstice
WHEN: June 18, 5PM-8PM
WHERE: Powerhouse Park, 1658 Coast Blvd., Del Mar
I grew up surfing at Del Mar 15th Street, and Powerhouse Park remains one of the best perches to watch why you pay exorbitant rent in San Diego (the surf in 70 degree weather). The Summer Solstice is the annual gathering of Del Mar restaurants and beverage creators, all perched on the grass overlooking the sand to watch the sun do its equatorial thing. Restaurants include Rendezvous, Brigantine, Sbicca, Jake’s, Mia Francesca, Bull Taco, Pacifica Del Mar, Davanti Enoteca, Prepkitchen, Kitchen 1540, and more. Drinks by Acoustic Ales, Bon Affair, Belching Beaver, Modern Times, Ballast Point, Coronado Brewing, Lost Abbey, etc. VIP tables are available.

Collections: Chef Justin Cogley at Addison Del Mar
WHEN: July 25, 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM
WHERE: Addison Del Mar, 5200 Grand Del Mar Way, San Diego
This is the last I’ll preview this series, because fans of world-class cuisine should pick one of these dinners now and buy tickets. And it’s not inexpensive. But at the last Collections dinner I had the meal of my life. By a pretty wide margin. For each Collection dinner, Addison’s James Beard nominee William Bradley collaborates on a menu—literally trading courses throughout the night—with one of the country’s best chefs. For the July 25 dinner, Justin Cogley, former chef de cuisine at Charlie Trotter’s and Food & Wine’s 2013 “Best New Chef,” who’s currently at Aubergine at L’Auberge Carmel. Next up in the series are chef Barbara Lynch (No. 9 Park) and chef Patrick O’Connell (Inn at Little Washington). World-class.
