Rarely would you think of the mall as a place to get a drink, let alone a well-made cocktail. True Food Kitchen changes that. The Fashion Valley spot has an impressive, elegant cocktail menu that begs you to take a break from shopping—just keep it to one (or two) drinks, so you don’t end up sloppy drunk in Bloomies.
Add a little cheer to your holiday shopping with the Spiced Cranberry Sidecar. This seasonal cocktail, made with mulled brandy, lemon and cranberry juice, was so tasty, I asked for the recipe. Figure out the right proportions and this would make a fantastic punch-bowl party drink.
Spiced Cranberry Sidecar
.5 ounce lemon juice
.75 ounce simple syrup
1.5 ounces cranberry juice
1.5 ounce mulled brandy*Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake. Strain into a bucket glass with ice. Garnish with a lemon wheel and two dried cranberries.
*I found a couple of good spiced / mulled brandy recipes online: one that’s heavy on spices and will need to mull for 14 days and another that’s made with apples and also requires two weeks for mulling. A good, inexpensive brandy is Paul Masson Grande Amber, which you can find at BevMo for $10 to $12.
Or, skip the DIY part and head to True Food. The Spiced Cranberry Sidecar is on the menu through the end of the year.
