The Without Walls (WoW) Festival at La Jolla Playhouse

La Jolla Playhouse puts on this festival showcasing short plays and avant-garde performances

By Bill Presant

The La Jolla Playhouse puts on its Without Walls (WoW) Festival October 3–6, showcasing short plays and avant-garde performances by local and visiting artists. Expect an unusual theater-going (or not going) experience, as the city is the stage in these works of “site-specific theater.” In the (25-minute) performance pictured above, UCSD M.F.A. candidate Sam Mitchell teams with artists Siri Jondtvedt and Snelle Hall of Norway for “HEDDA’ING,” at UCSD’s Fallen Star rooftop sculpture. The center of WoW will be the Festival Village at LJP—a mingling space for actors and audiences, complete with food trucks, a beer garden, live music, and free public talks and performances.
