What Are Portable Hot Tubs?

Portable hot tubs offer a convenient and relaxing way to unwind in the comfort of your own home or outdoor space. Brands like MSpa Global and Wave Spas provide a range of options for those seeking a customizable spa experience.

MSpa Global and Wave Spas are renowned for their innovative designs and user-friendly features, making them popular choices among consumers. Whether you prefer a smaller, more intimate tub or a larger one to entertain guests, these brands offer models to suit various needs.

One of the key advantages of portable hot tubs is their easy installation and maintenance compared to traditional built-in options. Their flexibility allows you to move them as needed, whether you want to enjoy a soak indoors during colder months or bask in the sun outdoors during summer.

Factors to Consider Before Buying

Before purchasing a hot tub, it’s essential to consider various factors such as its suitability for winter use, maintenance requirements, durability, and energy efficiency. Models like the Best Budget options and those designed for winter use with energy-efficient covers are worth exploring.

Winter suitability is a crucial aspect to examine, ensuring the hot tub can withstand cold temperatures and still provide the desired warmth and comfort. Looking into the maintenance needs is vital as it impacts the convenience and longevity of the unit. Durability is another key factor to evaluate to ensure your investment lasts for years to come. Seeking models that offer a balance of quality and affordability, like the Best Budget options, can be a smart choice for cost-conscious buyers. Selecting hot tubs equipped for winter use with energy-efficient covers not only saves on operational costs but also contributes to a more sustainable and eco-friendly home setup.

Cost and Budget

When considering a portable hot tub, evaluating the cost and budget is crucial. Look for Best Budget options that not only fit your initial investment but also offer energy-efficient features to minimize long-term operating costs.

Opting for a Best Budget hot tub can greatly impact your overall ownership experience. These models are designed to provide a perfect balance between affordability and quality, ensuring that you get the most value for your money. By choosing a hot tub with energy-efficient features, such as well-insulated walls, low energy consumption pumps, and efficient heating systems, you can significantly reduce your monthly utility bills.

In the long run, these energy-saving elements not only help you save money but also contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle. Having control over operational expenses allows you to enjoy the relaxing benefits of your hot tub without worrying about skyrocketing costs. Before making a purchase, carefully assess the overall cost of ownership, including maintenance, repairs, and ongoing energy usage, to make an informed decision that aligns with both your budget and environmental values.

Space Requirements

Determining the space requirements for your hot tub is essential. Consider the dimensions of the tub, whether it’s square, round, or octagonal, to ensure it fits comfortably in your desired location.

When choosing a hot tub, it’s crucial to take into account not only the overall size but also the shape to make the most of your available space. Dimensions play a key role in ensuring the hot tub fits seamlessly into your outdoor or indoor setting.

A square hot tub may be a perfect fit for a corner or against a straight wall, while a round one could create a more intimate seating arrangement. On the other hand, an octagonal hot tub adds a touch of elegance and can be a space-saving solution for compact areas.

Installation Process

Understanding the installation process of your hot tub is key to a successful setup. Whether it involves PU-insulated foam cores or other components, following the installation guidelines ensures a seamless experience.

  1. When setting up your hot tub, start by preparing the designated area, ensuring a level surface to support the weight.
  2. Next, carefully unpack the hot tub and inspect each part as per the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring all components are present.
  3. Then, connect the electrical components following safety measures, and secure the tub in place, making sure it is stable and aligned correctly.
  4. Fill the tub with water, check for leaks, and test the functionality of the jets and heating system before enjoying your relaxing retreat.

Choosing the Right Portable Hot Tub

Selecting the ideal portable hot tub involves comparing various models like the Best 2-Person and Best 6-Person options. Brands such as RELXTIME, Intex, and MSpa Global’s Oslo model provide diverse choices tailored to different preferences.

When looking for a portable hot tub, one must consider factors like size, features, and budget. The Best 2-Person option is perfect for cozy spaces or couples wanting a relaxing soak, while the Best 6-Person model is great for families or those who love to entertain.

Setting Up Your Portable Hot Tub

Properly setting up your portable hot tub involves area preparation, careful frame, and liner installation, and secure hose connection. This ensures a smooth and safe operation of your spa for a delightful experience.

Begin by selecting a level area for your hot tub, ensuring proper drainage and a solid foundation.

  1. Next, assemble the frame according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring all components are securely in place.
  2. Then, carefully install the liner, making sure it fits snugly and is free of any wrinkles or gaps.
  3. Connect the hose to fill the hot tub with water, checking for leaks and ensuring proper water level before powering on.

Each step plays a crucial role in creating a trouble-free and enjoyable spa setup, so pay attention to detail for the best results.

Area Preparation

Preparing the designated area for your hot tub involves considerations such as installing an insulated cover and implementing anti-freeze measures for cold climates. This preparation ensures the longevity and efficiency of your spa system.

Before setting up your hot tub, it is essential to create a suitable foundation, ideally a level concrete pad, to provide a stable base for the unit. Ensuring proper drainage around the area can prevent water damage and mold growth. Positioning the hot tub within reach of a power source and convenient water supply lines simplifies maintenance tasks. Installing insulated covers not only helps retain heat but also reduces energy costs. The anti-freeze measures are crucial in preventing damage during freezing temperatures, safeguarding the equipment from potential harm.

Frame and Liner Installation

The proper installation of the frame and liner in your hot tub is essential for its structural integrity. Components like woven UV-protected PVC construction ensure durability and longevity for your spa system.

Regarding installing the frame and liner of your hot tub, it’s crucial to follow a systematic approach to achieve a secure and reliable setup. Begin by assembling the frame according to the manufacturer’s instructions, ensuring all parts fit snugly together. Once the frame is in place, carefully position the UV-protected PVC liner inside, making sure it’s wrinkle-free and properly aligned.

Next, secure the liner in place by fastening it to the frame using the provided fasteners or clips. This step is essential to prevent any shifting or movement of the liner during use, maintaining the overall integrity of the tub. Inspect the installation carefully, checking for any loose areas or gaps that may compromise the effectiveness of the liner. By taking these steps, you can enjoy your hot tub with confidence, knowing that it’s been installed correctly for maximum durability and performance.

Hose Connection

Connecting the hose in your hot tub setup is a crucial step for proper water circulation. Ensure a secure and leak-free connection, considering features like PU-insulated foam cores for efficient water flow.

When setting up your hot tub, it is essential to pay attention to the connections to prevent any water leakage or disruptions in the flow. The PU-insulated foam cores play a significant role in maintaining the optimal water temperature and flow throughout the system.

To begin, identify the inlet and outlet ports on your hot tub and the corresponding ends of the hoses. Make sure the hoses are free of any kinks or blockages that could impede water flow. Then, firmly attach one end of the hose to the inlet port, ensuring a tight seal to prevent any water from escaping.

Maintenance of Portable Hot Tubs

Proper maintenance of your portable hot tub involves effective chemical management and adherence to a regular cleaning schedule. These practices ensure safety, hygiene, and longevity for your spa system.

Regarding chemical management, balancing the pH levels and keeping the water sanitized is crucial. This not only protects the users from potential skin irritations and infections but also prevents the growth of harmful bacteria. Maintaining a consistent cleaning routine helps in preventing build-up of dirt, debris, and oils that can impact the performance and appearance of your hot tub. By following these maintenance steps diligently, you can enjoy a safe, clean, and relaxing spa experience for years to come.

Chemical Management

Managing chemicals in your hot tub is essential for water quality and user safety, especially during winter. Ensure compliance with regulations such as Title 20 to guarantee proper chemical balance and optimal spa conditions.

Proper chemical management not only keeps your hot tub water clean but also plays a vital role in preventing skin irritations and maintaining the durability of your spa components. Regular testing of pH levels and sanitizer concentrations is crucial to ensure effective water sanitation.

During colder months, it’s even more critical to monitor chemical levels as the temperature changes can impact the balance of your spa. By following recommended guidelines and using high-quality chemicals, you can enjoy a safe and relaxing hot tub experience throughout the year.

Cleaning Schedule

Establishing a consistent cleaning schedule for your hot tub promotes sustainability and hygiene. Regular cleaning practices not only enhance the user experience but also contribute to the longevity and eco-friendliness of your spa system.

By adhering to a set cleaning routine, you can ensure that your hot tub remains a safe and enjoyable space. Consistent maintenance not only keeps the water clear and free of contaminants but also prevents potential damage to the equipment. This proactive approach not only saves you time and money in the long run but also reduces the environmental impact of your spa operation.

Operating Costs of a Portable Hot Tub

Understanding the operating costs of your portable hot tub, especially during winter, is crucial for effective budgeting. Opt for energy-efficient models to minimize energy costs and ensure cost-effective operation throughout the year.

During colder months, the energy consumption of hot tubs tends to increase due to the need to maintain water temperature amidst low external temperatures. To combat this, consider selecting a hot tub with efficient insulation and energy-saving features such as programmable timers and low-wattage circulation pumps. These features can significantly reduce the overall energy usage, translating into long-term cost savings.

User Experiences and Reviews

Exploring user experiences and reviews can provide valuable insights into factors like user-friendliness, LED lights, and energy costs associated with different hot tub models. Engage with spa blogs and user testimonials to gain a comprehensive understanding of the best options available.

Reading through user experiences and reviews is like taking a sneak peek into the actual performance of these hot tubs, shedding light on how they fare in terms of ease of use, the ambiance created by LED lighting features, and the impact on energy consumption.

These firsthand accounts offer a real-world perspective beyond just specifications, allowing you to make a more informed decision based on practical considerations. For a broader spectrum of opinions and insights, diving into spa blogs and user testimonials can offer a diverse range of experiences and viewpoints, helping you find a hot tub that fits your preferences and needs.

Final Thought: Are Portable Hot Tubs Worth Buying?

The decision to purchase a portable hot tub hinges on factors like sustainability, user reviews, and brand reputation. Brands like MSpas offer sustainable options that align with user preferences and environmental consciousness.

When considering the worth of portable hot tubs, it’s crucial to delve into how sustainable they are. Not only do environmentally friendly models reduce the impact on nature, but they also resonate well with eco-conscious individuals who prioritize green living.

User feedback acts as a testament to the functionality and durability of these tubs, helping potential buyers gauge their performance. The credibility of brands like Wave Spas plays a pivotal role in instilling trust among consumers, ensuring that they are investing in a reputable product that meets their sustainability criteria.

Nominations Open for the San Diego Business Impact Awards

The annual event honors middle market companies creating jobs, scaling up, and investing in the region

San Diego is known for its startup culture and innovation economy, but what happens when the company moves beyond its early-stage years? The San Diego Business Impact Awards aim to answer that question, spotlighting the middle market businesses helping drive the region’s economy.

Hosted by San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and JPMorganChase, the second annual awards celebration takes place on Thursday, July 23, from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Scripps Research Auditorium. More than 200 executives, entrepreneurs, and business leaders are expected to attend the networking and cocktail event honoring some of San Diego County’s fastest-growing companies.

Businesses headquartered in San Diego County that have operated for at least two years are encouraged to submit their nomination by Thursday, June 18 at 4 p.m. Companies across industries—from technology and life sciences to tourism and consumer products, as well as pre-revenue startups—are eligible for recognition.

For EDC President and CEO Mark Cafferty, the event is as much about building connections as celebrating success. “We’ve had a longtime partnership with JPMorganChase; their work aligns with our efforts to support underserved communities and drive talent development,” says Cafferty. “And the networking was invaluable last year. I’m still in touch with people I met at last year’s awards.”

EDC is an independently-funded nonprofit that works directly with San Diego companies to help them grow the local economy, make the region as a whole more competitive, and attract and retain top-tier talent with quality jobs. Through EDC, companies can get help starting or expanding their business with support for things like site selection, permit navigation, and regulatory guidance, plus connections to local resources and potential business collaborators.

The San Diego Business Impact Awards began as an idea with one of EDC’s longtime strategic partners, JPMorganChase. The two organizations share a commitment to San Diego and are dedicated to bolstering middle market businesses.

“We’re blessed with a robust innovation economy and startup community,” says Aaron Ryan, San Diego Region Manager for JPMorgan’s Commercial and Investment Bank and vice chair of the firm’s’ San Diego Market Leadership Team. “But one of the segments of the business community we felt was overlooked was emerging middle market companies—the businesses that are no longer small but not yet large.”

Ryan says supporting those companies is critical as they scale and decide where to invest, hire, and grow.

San Diego’s high cost of living remains one of the region’s biggest business challenges, making talent recruitment and retention increasingly competitive. But local leaders point to the region’s quality of life, climate, and collaborative business community as advantages that continue to attract employers and workers.

“In order to support thriving households, there has to be enough high-quality jobs for people to be able to afford to live here,” Cafferty says. “Once a company grows and excels past that middle market point in their growth cycle, they become much more likely to pay higher wages and compete globally.”

Both Cafferty and Ryan proudly tout the unique collaboration that exists among San Diego County businesses. Bringing together top universities producing high-quality talent, cutting-edge research institutions, a robust military and defense presence, leading ocean science and environmental organizations, and a binational, cross-border identity creates a distinct business ecosystem that defines and strengthens the San Diego region.

Last year’s San Diego Business Impact Awards celebrated nearly 60 honorees from 49 industries, representing a total of 8,232 jobs across eight sectors, including: software and technology, healthcare and life sciences, consumer goods, professional services, finance, construction and manufacturing, defense, and hospitality and tourism. On average, honoree companies doubled their revenues over the previous year, employed more than 145 San Diegans each, and offered an average annual compensation of $192,415.

Top honorees included defense contractor Innoflight, environmental consulting firm Bancroft Construction Services, life sciences startup Element Biosciences, defense technology contractor GALT Aerospace, organic grocery store chain Jimbo’s, and biopharmaceutical company LENZ Therapeutics. During the event, Innoflight Founder and CEO Jeff Janicik held a fireside chat offering his insights on investing in the community and embracing San Diego culture.

This year, organizers hope to continue highlighting the middle market players driving economic impact across the region. Nominations are now open through June 18 at 4 p.m. Get your tickets to the San Diego Business Impact Awards celebration to enjoy drinks by Snake Oil Cocktail Co., light bites, live music, and networking.

New Options for GLP-1 Users

Scripps study shows that some patients may be able to taper their dose and maintain results

New Options for GLP-1 Users

While glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agents have been used to treat Type 2 diabetes for more than 20 years, their recent emergence as weight-loss wonder drugs marked a new frontier in medicine. But their effectiveness has left some patients wondering what to do once they’ve reached their goal. Stopping the medication could mean regaining some, if not all, of the weight. A Scripps Clinic internal medicine physician recently conducted a small study of whether GLP-1 patients who had reached their goal weight could maintain that weight by taking their regularly prescribed injection every other week instead of weekly. Spoiler alert: 30 of 34 patients did. Read more about the study here and what that may mean as pharmaceutical companies roll out oral GLP-1s.

Beautiful Balboa Park: Nine Ways to See the City’s Crown Jewel in a New Light

San Diego Magazine's 2026 Guide to Balboa Park.

Beautiful Balboa Park: Nine Ways to See the City’s Crown Jewel in a New Light
Magical San Diego’s Balboa Park at twilight in San Diego California USA

Balboa Park is San Diego’s cultural heart.

The iconic 1,200-acre preserve’s history dates back more than 150 years, evolving from a scrub-filled plot atop a mesa overlooking what’s now Downtown to an urban oasis—the largest of its kind in the country—filled with an array of museums, attractions, gardens, trails, restaurants, and more. Balboa Park is an epic playground where San Diegans and visitors alike can experience the great outdoors just as easily as they can enjoy a world-class performance or explore groundbreaking discoveries.

Tucked away in the Spanish Colonial Revival-style architecture are 18 diverse museums that allow visitors to spend the day learning about, well, anything. A great place to start is the San Diego History Center. Located in the Casa del Balboa building, the museum tells the story of the city’s past, present, and future through photographs and art, clothing and textiles, and interviews with people who witnessed history-making events firsthand. The San Diego Natural History Museum takes visitors even farther back with interactive exhibitions that show what the region was like up to 75 million years ago.

Blast off on a simulated trip to space at the San Diego Air & Space Museum, then check out artifacts from aviation legends, including the Wright brothers, Amelia Earhart, and Buzz Aldrin. Discover new perspectives revolutionizing the science world, learn about an often overlooked but overutilized utility, and exercise your creativity at the Fleet Science Center.

Calling all theater-lovers, Balboa Park has something for you, too. The San Diego Junior Theatre will present their musical take on beloved children’s book A Bad Case of the Stripes from June 26 through July 12. And laugh, cry, and marvel in awe as the pros of The Old Globe perform Kim’s Convenience, the award-winning comedy that inspired the popular series, from May 15 to June 14.

There’s nowhere else in Balboa Park quite like WorldBeat Cultural Center. The institution celebrates African diaspora and indigenous cultures around the world using art, music, dance, and education. The building, a renovated water tower covered in colorful murals, houses a performing arts center, museum, gift shop, cafe, and outdoor classroom.

If you’d like a side of nature with your culture, Balboa Park has you covered there, too. Stroll through the gardens of the Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum, a monument to the relationship between San Diego and its sister city, Yokohama, Japan. Inspired by traditional Japanese design dating back centuries, the 10-acre respite features a living exhibition that showcases plants native to both cities.

If there seems like a lot going on in Balboa Park, it’s because there is. Let the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership be your guide. The organization is the umbrella for 24 of the park’s institutions and offers an Explorer Pass that allows visitors to access multiple museums for one affordable price. The hardest part is picking where to start.

16 Museums, One Pass

Save on admission to San Diego’s top museums with the Balboa Park Explorer Pass. Explore 16 museums of art, science, history and culture across Balboa Park — all with one affordable pass. Choose the option that fits your pace: the Limited Pass (one day for up to four museums), the Parkwide Pass (seven consecutive days of access to all 16 museums) or the Annual Pass (365 days of unlimited exploring).

San Diego History Center

History belongs to everyone. At the San Diego History Center, two experiences bring that history to life this summer: America at 250 and the Center for Women’s History. America at 250 traces San Diego’s place in 250 years of U.S. history, while summer programs invite children to learn and explore. The Center for Women’s History amplifies the voices of women whose leadership and creativity have shaped our region.

By understanding our past, we build a more vibrant and inclusive community together. These vital educational experiences are only possible through generous community support. Discover your roots, spark meaningful dialogue, and help keep San Diego’s stories alive for future generations.

San Diego Natural History Museum (The Nat)

This summer, The Nat is talking trash—literally. Their newest exhibition, Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, features larger‑than‑life marine sculptures made of ocean debris collected from beaches. It invites visitors to explore the impact of plastic pollution and discover ways to take action.

But the experience doesn’t stop at the gallery doors. Friday nights, the exhibition transforms into an ocean-themed “dive bar” during Nat at Night. Select Sundays bring something brand new: a rooftop brunch with sweeping Balboa Park views. Add two new giant-screen films and five floors of nature to explore, and The Nat is shaping up to be one of the season’s must-visit destinations.
