A leadless pacemaker helps a mountain biker get back on track

Avid cyclist Whitney Despain was shocked to learn that the erratic heart rate, dizziness and fatigue she’d been experiencing were signs of a serious heart condition. She was 52 and healthy, and was regularly riding more than 100 miles a week. When her cardiologist recommended a pacemaker, she was worried it would interfere with her hobby. But he Then she learned about a new type of pacemaker that’s contained entirely within a heart chamber and doesn’t use wires, called leads, to connect to a battery.
