Event Manager (Contract)

Primary Function

The Event Manager is responsible for developing and executing high profile lifestyle events that drive engagement, build relationships, are profitable, and compliment San Diego Magazine’s brand. The Event Manager will have quarterly intern support and guidance from the VP of Marketing + Events for all events.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Overview

  • Work collaboratively with all departments to fulfill company annual goals.
  • Assist VP of Marketing + Event with Marketing + Event department goals as needed.
  • Manage San Diego Magazine’s marquis in-house events (i.e. Brunch Bash, Best of North
  • County, Best of San Diego, Celebrating Women). Event schedule subject to new additions
  • and/or removal.
  • Manage ticket registration, customer service, and eventbrite supervision (knowledge of
  • eventbrite is a plus).
  • Manage the development and execution of the event’s project management timeline.
  • Delegate tasks, responsibilities, deadlines, and other specifications to intern(s) as needed.
  • Manage sponsor, exhibitor, and/or vendor management in conjunction with sales team and
  • VP of Marketing + Events.
  • Assist with nomination campaigns tied to events, such as Celebrating Women
  • Seek out new venue spaces and schedule all event venue tours and pre-planning site visits in
  • conjunction with the VP of Marketing + Events.
  • Recruit and manage external volunteers and/or staff volunteers for events.
  • Coordinate event setup, live event production, and tear down in conjunction with VP of
  • Marketing + Events.
  • Responsible for driving brand awareness and advocacy by working with clients and vendors.
  • Must maintain a high level of customer service and professionalism.
  • Serve as main contact for sponsors, vendors, and/or exhibitors for all events.
  • Assist with scheduling and monitoring event marketing needs such as website updates, eblasts, social posts, SMS texts, etc.
  • Secure event permits and licenses through various city departments.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Provide weekly event ticket tracking updates during our department meetings to provide the
  • team with analytic insight
    • Work with the VP of Marketing + Events to adhere to event budget restrictions and hittarget ticket/sponsorship sales goals.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with clients and planning/program committees to meet their needs and specifications.

Sponsorship Communication & Retention

  • Accompany Sales Account Managers on sponsorship sales calls or meetings, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Sales department and VP of Marketing + Events to create and execute unique and exciting brand activations at San Diego Magazine events.
  • Identify new sponsorship prospects.
  • Coordinate and manage walk-throughs with sponsors.

Qualifications

  • Seasoned professional with 3+ years of event coordinating experience.
  • Prior knowledge of Eventbrite organizer platform is a plus.
  • Experience with Canva or other similar graphic design programs is a plus.
  • High attention to detail, positive attitude, great customer service, and problem solver.

Employment

  • Full-Time Contract-to-Hire position (3-month contract)
  • Opportunity to become full-time employee upon contract completion.
  • $25.00/hour compensation – 40 hours per week with opportunity for overtime pay.
