The work of sixteen local and international artists has come together in a “pop-up arts celebration” called Wonderspaces, making its first tour stop in San Diego at the corner of Civita Boulevard and Russell Parkway in Mission Valley. Under a 20,000-square-foot tent, many of the interactive installations and virtual reality films on display hail from festivals far and wide—Sundance, Cannes, Dutch Design Week, Burning Man, SXSW, and more.
The Wonderspaces mission is to bring interactive experiences to people who are more likely to be found cruising down Friars Road than jetting off to Cannes. From Paris is Daydream V2 by Nonotak Studio, Noemi Schipfer, and Takami Nakamoto, an “alternate reality” of light reflections and illusions previously seen in places as varied as POP Austin and the Istanbul Light Festival. During the run of the show, alcohol sales will benefit local nonprofit partners such as A Ship in the Woods and La Jolla Historical Society.
