Once Upon a Stage

You know you’re in for a rousing musical performance when there’s a pre-show jam session before the official curtain. Based on an Academy Award-winning Irish film, the stage adaptation of Once premiered on Broadway in 2012 and took home eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Book. The graceful yet gritty tale of a young, struggling musician who has his luck changed by an inspiring young woman arrives in San Diego this month. “Fall slowly” for the 12 cast members, each of whom plays an instrument on stage, as the story reveals the power of music and the importance of chasing dreams. Once runs August 12–17 at the San Diego Civic Theatre. broadwaysd.com
