Digital Designer

Digital Designer to help brainstorm, design and execute innovative multi-platform content. The magazine’s content takes many forms—reported articles, photo essays, videos, social media, events and brand partnerships. You will pro-actively produce a variety of materials for the print and digital realm. As the Digital Designer you will work with the Chief Creative Officer and Editor-in-Chief.

  • Translate complex conceptual and strategic ideas into graphic design solutions, seamlessly coming up with templates for print and digital.

  • Design ambitiously, with a command of typography, composition, messaging hierarchy, and balance

  • Help establish a seamless process to align content for print, web design, e-newsletters and social.

  • Oversee digital story builds

  • Create custom artwork for digital stories, digitally focused assets for events and marketing

  • Create replicable templates and guidelines for print, online and social story promotion elements

  • Help establish and maintain brand visual style guides

  • Develop mood boards/visual treatment concepts for new newsletters and editorial refreshes

  • Contribute to ongoing creation of a comprehensive and diverse portfolio of freelancers suited to the visual voice of SDM; understand journalism

  • Collaborate across creative teams and provide ideas and visual solutions in brainstorming meetings

  • Help arrange photo shoots

  • Logos and branding programs (for newsletters and social)

  • Printed Materials (media kits, invitations, flyers, signage, posters, etc.)

Skills

Candidates must be fluent in the digital design realm and be a true stakeholder in the process of alleging print with online. Experienced digital media creator with 5 years demonstrated history of working in the publishing, e-marketing and art production industries. Skilled in art direction, photo editing, graphic design, social media marketing, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign.

  • Optimize digital translations of the print magazine for web and social

  • Work with internal and outside collaborators (video editors, supplied images from story subjects)  to optimize the burgeoning digital experience at SDM.

  • Experienced editorial designer/ illustrator

  • Expert Photoshop skills creating digital photo collages with supplied imagery

  • Ability to generate, execute and iterate on ideas quickly

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in deadline driven and fast paced environment

  • Comfortable working with many stakeholders and editors across several departments

  • Comfortable both giving and receiving feedback

  • Organized, proactive and detail oriented

  • Fluency in email marketing
