San Diegans Danced for Life on the deck of the USS Midway on Sept. 13. Jazzercise instructors led 1,100 people in a group fitness class to honor breast cancer survivors, increase awareness and raise funds to find a cure. The Jazzercise Dance for Life event raised $92,000 for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. Jazzercise instructors worldwide will be hosting fundraisers to support breast cancer awareness. “We are proud to be part of the fight to end breast cancer,” said Judi Sheppard Missett, Founder and CEO of Jazzercise, Inc. “We’re excited to be able to do what we love – dance,”

Starry Starry Night benefiting Voices for Children held on Sept. 13 at the San Diego Polo Club, raised $1.1 million. “Our guests were exceedingly generous in their support of our foster children and our Court Appointed Special Advocate program. As a result, hundreds of children will receive a CASA—someone to stand by them during a traumatic time,” said VFC president and CEO Sharon Lawrence. CASAs work directly with foster children and ensure their needs are met in the courtroom, classroom, and community. The Constellation Sponsor was Haeyoung Kong Tang and the Andromeda Sponsors were Cox, Farrell Family Foundation and Qualcomm.

The AT&T Pioneers De Anza Chapter hosted its annual golf tournament on July 19 at the San Vicente Golf Resort in Ramona. AT&T Pioneers is a network of current AT&T employees and retirees who volunteer to effect immediate, tangible change in local communities, in partnership with their sponsors. The $7,000 raised benefits Operation Homefront to help provide emergency financial and other assistance to the families of service members and wounded warriors. The AT&T Pioneers presented the check to Operation Homefront on Sept. 17.

Oceanside Yacht Club Charity raised $26,000 for The Elizabeth Hospice at their 7th annual Charity Regatta. “The Elizabeth Hospice is honored to be selected by the Oceanside Yacht Club as their regatta beneficiary of choice for the past 12 years,” said Jan Jones, President and CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice. “Their generous contributions directly impacts The Elizabeth Hospice’s profound mission in providing comprehensive services for adults and children impacted by illness and grief in our community.”

The Rite Aid Foundation has awarded a $10,000 grant to Home Start in recognition of its programs and services that assist San Diego families with prevention and treatment of child abuse. Rite Aid has created a reward program called “idCents” and will provide a matching donation of $500 for every $500 customers designate to this program through their Rite Aid wellness+ cards when making purchases, up to $5,000 total. Rite Aid customers can visit KidCents.com, elect to round up their Rite Aid purchases, and donate their change to Home Start.
