RESPONSIBILITIES

Update editorial run sheet weekly following Editorial/Art meeting
-
Field and pitch feature story ideas; Assign and edit features with Editor in Chief
-
Field and organize pitches for all sections and features, as assigned by Editor in Chief
-
Collaborate with Editor in Chief and production team to create and meet projections and deadlines
-
Pitch, write and edit the CULTURE and LIVING sections on a monthly basis
-
Write, edit and curate editorial content across all platforms, including the website and newsletters as needed
-
Work with Editor in Chief to edit freelance contributions with an expert’s eye
-
Source provided photos for web and print stories as needed
-
Attend photo shoots as needed
-
Use inDesign to review and edit magazine layouts and communicate art changes to designers
-
Collaborate and generate print-to-web headlines for each monthly issue of San Diego Magazine
-
Produce weekly web articles in the Arts & Culture sections for sandiegomagazine.com and co-manage freelance contributions for web with the Editor in Chief

Attend community events to stay abreast of trends, news, and local happenings. Have a finger on the pulse of movement in the community and develop a keen sense of future opportunities and challenges

Co-manage relationships with freelance writers, assigning and generating a constant flow of interesting and unique content
-
Create content for e-newsletters

Attend weekly editorial and web meetings for short-term and long-term planning of editorial content across all platforms
-
Track freelance contracts on a monthly basis for the magazine and sandiegomagazine.com

Manage seasonal interns
-
Act as back up copy editor for web and print projects as needed
