In today’s Happy Half Hour, we’re broadcasting live from Puesto at The Headquarters. Erin Chambers Smith and special guest co-host Candice Ely, director of communications for the San Diego Tourism Authority, along with producer Archana Ram share the top dining and drinking stories around town. To start the show, we discuss the expansion of Modern Times, which just announced plans to open a huge drink and entertainment complex in Anaheim dubbed Lesiuretown.
In “Hot Topics,” we chat about a recent study that found that Airbnb guests spent $71 million dining at San Diego restaurants. But as Candice tell us, a San Diego County Visitor Profile Study shows that visitors spent more than $2 billion at restaurant, bars, and nightclubs last year.
Plus, we welcome Dan Nattrass of Liberty Public Market’s FishBone Kitchen. The longtime fishmonger tells us about his experience working at Catalina Offshore Products for more than 20 years, the merits of (some) farm fishing, and why “uni is the new kale.”
We also talk “Small Bites,” including a great date night restaurant and the best things we ate this month. We’re also snacking on some new Puesto menu items, including their fried carnitas plate, nopales salad, Baja striped bass tiradito, and spaghetti squash fideo with Puesto Executive Creative Chef Katy Smith.
