Scripps Health continued its time-honored tradition of starting the holiday season with a glamorous event to gather support for a worthy cause. Around 440 people came out to the Fairmont Grand Del Mar for the 86th Annual Candlelight Ball, which raised $1.8 million for the new Barbey Family Emergency and Trauma Center. The center is opening in fall 2016 on the first floor of the Prebys Cardiovascular Institute at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. It will more than double the size of the current emergency and trauma facilities, which treat more than 30,000 patients each year. John, Nonnie, and Suzy Barbey, former Scripps chief medical officer and trauma surgeon A. Brent Eastman, and his wife, Sarita Eastman, were among several honored guests at the event.
