The annual opening gala for the San Diego Symphony is one of the city’s premiere black-tie events. This year’s Opus Gala brought 650 people to the University Club and Jacobs Music Center for Passport to the World, a glamorous night of food, cocktails, and classical music. Everything from the three-course dinner to the decor was influenced by Russian, Spanish, and other Eurasian cultures. A live auction for prizes including a two-week river cruise in Russia and a private home recital helped raise $500,000 for the symphony’s music education programs. The night culminated with a concert by pianist Yuja Wang, which 1,000 music students from around the county were invited to attend.
