Jewish Family Service of San Diego’s Center for Jewish Care Welcomes Social Justice Activist, Author Rabbi Shmuly Yanklowitz for Luncheon Focused on Compassion

About the Event

“The Role of Compassion in Social Change,” this year’s luncheon hosted by the Center for Jewish Care, features Rabbi Dr. Shmuly Yanklowitz in conversation with Michael Hopkins, CEO of Jewish Family Service, about how acts of compassion can bridge divides, heal communities and drive systemic change.

The afternoon focuses on how the core Jewish value of compassion can serve as a catalyst for social transformation. In this thought-provoking discussion, Rabbi Shmuly, a global social justice activist, published author, educator and speaker will reference contemporary case studies and his own experiences.

According to Yanklowitz, the event will be an opportunity to come together and talk about how we will continue to build our community around the central virtue of compassion, while deepening our moral commitment.

This discussion focuses on how San Diegans as individuals and a community can practice compassion – through empathy, integrity and kindness – in today’s increasingly complicated world. The luncheon, a part of the Center for Jewish Care’s ongoing work to help San Diegans access critical services for their immediate needs, is a fundraiser for Jewish Family Service of San Diego.
