Calling all science buffs and curious minds! The Reuben H. Fleet Science Center is celebrating innovation and sparking scientific inspiration with scintillating exhibitions and events throughout 2015. Eight permanent galleries with 100 interactive science exhibits await, plus the world’s first IMAX® Giant Dome Theater, home to The Sky Tonight, a monthly interstellar odyssey led by an astronomer and followed by outdoor telescope viewing of the night sky. In addition, mind-blowing IMAX films fill the dome’s massive screen, such as Humpback Whales, a close-up look at how these ocean leviathans communicate, sing, feed, play, and care for their young, or Journey to Space, an IMAX love letter to space exploration with a focus on past accomplishments and a look to future missions, such as landing astronauts on Mars and capturing asteroids. For the 21+ set, the Fleet hosts adult learning experiences like the Two Scientists Walk Into a Bar program, which provides an exciting opportunity to ask a diverse range of scientists anything over a craft beer in brewpubs all over town. Onsite, the Fleet Night of Science calls for live experiments with local scientists, libations, nibbles, and laughter. And there’s more summer fun to be had at the Fleet’s new exhibition, CIRCUS! Science Under the Big Top, where visitors can discover the spectacle’s scientific roots while investigating sword swallowing and trying out midair acrobatics. Interactive exhibits explore everything from clown makeup to animal communication. The Fleet’s exciting permanent exhibitions include Kid City, where the under-6 set can explore the physics of movement at the Ball Wall, and the hands-on Tinkering Studio, where all ages can discover their inner inventor.
