Robert managed to capture a sense of intimacy, and at the same time made these spaces feel like a projection of each person’s psyche. Plus, there’s a certain voyeuristic itch scratched by seeing the inside of someone else’s home.

The best photographers we work with with have a sense of adventure. No exception, Paul Body donned a beesuit and climbed to a rooftop with his gear to get the shot.

A lot of times, our job at the magazine is to make you want to be there. Who wouldn’t want to go to a dinner party in a chef’s house?! The hitch: food photography and portrait photography can be mutually exclusive specialties. Photographer Robert Benson does both. And here, he carried both out with ease.

We waited to photograph this home so that Bridget McKenna’s garden would be in bloom, and boy did it (did you catch the bathtub filled with flowers?). Her adorable family, and inspired color palette made this home we ALL want to live in!

Photographer Flavio Scorsato has a knack for capturing natural, telling micro-expressions. On location, his direction to the subject seems minimal, but combined with his expert lighting the result is something cinematic.

These doctors had to look serious—and of course, smart—but for a story examining tough decision-making, we also wanted to show a tender side. Kudos to photographer Priscilla Iezzi who got these docs talking and comfortable in front of the camera.

It was a bit of a feat to organize ALL of these desserts for photos. But we love how unified it makes the story look, and how the white background allows each dessert to be the star of the frame. Did we mention that several of these were delivered to the SDM offices for photos? We love our jobs!

A handful of restaurant bosses gathered in one room is a lot of personality. But these chefs were gracious—and so entertaining to be around. We loved how facial expressions and hand gestures popped against the wealth of textures in the dark clothing and the industrial backdrop.
