The Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation, an affiliate of the San Diego Foundation, awarded a total of $83,000 to 20 programs that benefit the neighborhood during its 30th annual Thanksgiving Luncheon. Among the beneficiaries were the Black Mountain Dance Foundation; Chaparral Elementary School’s PTA; RB Veterans Memorial Association; Rancho Bernardo Senior Services Center; Meals on Wheels of Greater San Diego; and the RB Neighborhood Watch.
“Every year, the Rancho Bernardo Community Foundation Thanksgiving Luncheon serves as a reminder for how generous Rancho Bernardo residents are and the impact philanthropy has across our community,” said RBCF President Debbie Kurth.

Internationally recognized dancer and star of the viral video “We’re Muslim, Don’t Panic” Amirah Sackett led a dance workshop for high school girls from the Academy of Our Lady of Peace and International Rescue Committee’s refugee girls empowerment programs on November 9. The event featured welcoming remarks by Congresswoman Susan Davis followed by a performance, a movement workshop, and a discussion about identity and self-confidence.

Runners step off in Life Perspectives’ Side by Side 5K
Life Perspectives’ Side by Side 5K at De Anza Cove on October 27 brought in more than $62,000 to support the nonprofit’s efforts to connect people affected by pregnancy loss with the resources they need to heal. More than 300 guests attended the event, and KUSI’s Allie Wagner emceed.
“So many hurting men and women feel isolated and alone in their grief. From the generosity of our community sponsors and 5K participants, we are able to connect many of them with healing resources designed to bring them hope,” said Michaelene Fredenburg, Life Perspectives’ president and founder.
