Bank of America awarded $342,500 in grants to be distributed to 24 nonprofits working to increase access to affordable housing and support community revitalization and neighborhood preservation in the San Diego community. Funding will help low and moderate income people who are struggling due to a lack of affordable housing access the resources they need to lay a foundation for a stable financial life. Among those receiving grants is San Diego Habitat for Humanity, which will use the funding to provide homeownership for veteran and military families in need of improved housing.
Association of Fundraising Professionals, San Diego has announced the honorees for the 2016 44th Annual National Philanthropy Day Awards. T. Denny Sanford will be recognized with the Outstanding Philanthropist Award. His dedication to education, healthcare, wildlife and youth programs, and his philanthropic support for the San Diego community has changed the face of San Diego. Others being honored at the event on November 17 at the Copley Symphony Hall at the Jacobs Music Center, include Amy Parrott, San Diego Zoo Global; John Seiber, Kraemer Endowment Foundation, UBS; and Brookfield Residential, HomeAid San Diego.

DEI Holding’s Forte for Children, has distributed $321,000 to its key beneficiaries at its seventh annual Charity Gala which was held on Aug. 20 at the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad. Established by DEI Holdings, parent company to consumer electronic companies including Polk Audio, and Definitive Technology, Forte for Children awarded $45,886 in grants to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marco and Vista; The Moonlight Cultural Foundation; Solutions for Change; and Casa de Amparo.
The Council for Opportunity in Education recognized five community leaders as 2016 National TRIO Achievers. Jose Cruz, Barrio Logan College Institute was the only recipient from California to be recognized. National Trio Achievers are selected from former low income, first-generation college graduates for their outstanding contributions to their professions. Cruz has dedicated his life to helping disadvantaged families, by preparing their children from as early as the 3rd grade for college enrollment and success through BLCI’s after-school programs.

AT&T – Court Appointed Special Advocates
AT&T presented a $25,000 contribution to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Imperial County. The contribution will be used to train community volunteers to become education mentors and provide enrichment opportunities for at-risk foster children across the county for a minimum of 18 months. AT&T Aspire is AT&T’s signature philanthropic initiative that drives innovation in education by bringing diverse resources to bear on the issue including funding, technology, employee volunteerism, and mentoring.
The 46th annual Ramona country Fair held a fundraiser on Aug. 25-28 at the Ramona Outdoor Community Center. The funds raised went to the Ramona Community Foundation to provide scholarships for Ramona students and free programs for the Ramona community.
Fair sponsors included Barona Resort & Casino, Poway Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram, Kamps Propane, Ramona Disposal Services and Diamond Resorts International.
